First of all, I have to say finding a before picture was difficult as I didn't like to have pictures taken of me. I had the duodenal switch on 9/26/08. Prior to this surgery, I had to have both of my knees replaced, and the doctor told me that if I wanted to keep them that I would need to lose weight. In addition, I had borderline high blood pressure, borderline diabetes, high cholesterol and gastric reflux. I am a nurse, and I knew that I was headed for major health problems as well as an early death if I didn't correct things soon.

I had been on the "yo-yo" dieting, and tried so many diets that I had lost track. Since my surgery, I have lost 133 pounds, and created a new life for myself. I just had my six year check-up with my orthopedic doctor, and he says that there is no wear on my knees. I no longer have high blood pressure or diabetes. My cholesterol level was way down at 142, and my triglycerides are usually undetectable now. I do have to work on my diet and am on an exercise program.

I believe in the weight loss surgery so much that I have been the Bariatric Program Coordinator for about 4 1/2 years. My quality of life is forever changed, and I couldn't be more thankful.
